Sacraments

Baptism

Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation in the Catholic Church, marking the entry into the Christian Life. Through baptism, original sin and all personal sins are washed away and the individual is reborn as a child of God and a member of the Church. This sacrament involves the pouring of water while invoking the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

First Reconciliation

Children who are at least in Grade 2 and have met the minimum requirements for completing an ongoing catechesis program will be invited to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Preparation usually takes place starting late September and the celebration of the sacrament is usually in December. This program is facilitated by our religious education coordinator.

First Communion

Children who are at least in Grade 3 and have met the minimum requirements for completing an ongoing catechesis program will be invited to prepare for First Communion. Preparation usually takes place in the late winter and the celebration of the Sacrament is usually in the spring in conjunction with the feast of Corpus Christi. This program is facilitated by our religious education coordinator.

Confirmation

 ​Children who are at least in Grade 6 and have met the minimum requirements for completing an ongoing catechesis program will be invited to prepare for Confirmation. Preparation usually takes place in the late winter and the celebration of the Sacrament usually occurs during in May. This program is facilitated by our religious education coordinator.

Matrimony

The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred covenant in which a man and a woman are united in marriage, forming a lifelong partnership ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. In this sacrament, the couple mutually confer the sacrament upon each other through their consent, witnessed by a priest or deacon and the Church community. Matrimony reflects the union of Christ and His Church, marked by love, fidelity and indissolubility.

​​Please call the Parish Office to check for your particular date and to schedule an initial interview before confirming other bookings. In addition, you must be a registered member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing that offers spiritual strength, comfort, and, if it is God's will, physical healing to those who are seriously ill or near the end of their lives. In this sacrament, a priest anoints the sick person's forehead and hands with the Oil of the Sick, while praying for the grace of the Holy Spirit to strengthen and support them.

If you know somebody who is ill or in need of anointing at home or in hospital, please call the Parish Office. In case of emergency or near-death situation, please call the parish priest at 204-224-1669 ext. 21.
